In 2022, 34,709,262 MWh (34.71 TWh) of electricity (gross) was generated from nuclear energy in Germany with three plants. In total, gross electricity generation in Germany in 2022 was 573.4 TWh, with nuclear energy accounting for 6.0 per cent.

In 2021, six plants generated 69,130,450 MWh (69.13 TWh) of electricity (gross). Total gross electricity generation was 587.1 TWh, with nuclear energy accounting for 11.8 per cent.

By 15 April 2023, a further 7,215,636 MWh (7.22 TWh) of electricity (gross) had been generated, 1.4 percent of gross electricity generation. Since 16 April, all German nuclear power plants have been shut down, undergoing decommissioning, in safe enclosure or completely dismantled. Electricity from nuclear power is only included in the electricity mix in the form of imported electricity and will continue to be the most important electricity generation technology in the EU in 2023.

In total, around 5,600 billion kilowatt hours (5,600 TWh) of electricity were generated from nuclear energy in Germany between 1961 and 2023. This avoided the emission of around 5.6 billion tonnes of CO2. The highest annual generation with nuclear energy was achieved in 2001 with 171.3 TWh, and nuclear energy had the highest share of gross electricity generation in reunified Germany in 1997 with 31 per cent.
