Kerntechnik Deutschland e. V. joins nucleareurope

Berlin – February 16, 2026

Kerntechnik Deutschland e. V. (KernD), the association representing Germany’s nuclear technology sector in industry and research, has become a member of the European nuclear energy association nucleareurope. With this step, KernD strengthens the European networking of its members and reinforces the position of Germany’s nuclear industry and research community within the European context.

nucleareurope currently brings together 17 national nuclear energy and nuclear technology associations, as well as 19 corporate members. In total, more than 3,000 organisations from across the entire nuclear value chain are represented, ranging from major international nuclear power plant operators and companies in the nuclear fuel cycle to specialised equipment manufacturers and transport companies.

Membership provides KernD with new opportunities to active participation in European nuclear energy projects. Germany’s nuclear industry and research institutions contribute valuable industrial know-how and decades of experience to these developments. At the same time, German companies and research centres benefit from involvement in numerous new-build and innovation projects across Europe, particularly focusing on maintaining nuclear expertise and safeguarding highly skilled jobs in Germany.

Commenting on the accession, Thomas Seipolt, Chairman of the Board of KernD, said: “With nuclear energy gaining renewed focus across Europe, nucleareurope is an ideal partner for KernD and the German nuclear industry. Germany brings strong industrial expertise and research capabilities to the European nuclear value chain, and our members are committed to contributing to competitiveness, security of supply, and Europe’s climate and energy sovereignty."

For KernD, joining nucleareurope also represents a return to the European level under new circumstances. One of KernD’s two predecessor organisations, the German Atomic Forum (DatF), had already been a long-standing member of nucleareurope’s predecessor organisation Foratom until its withdrawal in 2016.

KernD is the leading competence network for nuclear energy in Germany. As an association of key players in the industry, KernD brings together companies, research institutions and experts who are committed to the safe use, research and further development of nuclear technology. With its expertise and experience, KernD is the first point of contact for all questions relating to nuclear technology in Germany.
