Kerntechnik Deutschland e. V. appoints new Managing Director
Berlin, 1 February 2026 - As of 1 February 2026, Nicole Koch has taken over the position of Managing Director of Kerntechnik Deutschland e. V. (KernD) as well as INFORUM Verlags- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH. With this appointment, the association further strengthens its role as a fact-based, well-founded and forward-looking voice for nuclear technology in Germany and Europe.
Nicole Koch brings more than 20 years of experience in nuclear technology, along with extensive technical, organisational and communications expertise. Since 2019, she has held key positions within the association and has played a significant role in shaping its work. Her responsibilities have included serving as Editor of atw – International Journal for Nuclear Power, managing events for KernD and the German Nuclear Society (Kerntechnische Gesellschaft e. V.), and contributing to strategic communications and public affairs. During this time, she has built a broad and well-established network within the professional nuclear community.
By appointing Nicole Koch, we are gaining a Managing Director who combines deep technical expertise, strong communication skills and many years of association experience in an exceptional way,” said Thomas Seipolt, Chairman of the Board of KernD.
“She stands for both continuity and the further development of our work at national and European level.”
KernD represents a fact-based, science-driven and future-oriented approach to nuclear technology. Under the new management, the association aims to further increase its visibility, strengthen technical and societal dialogue, and actively contribute to shaping the framework conditions for a possible restart of nuclear energy in Germany.
Nicole Koch commented:
“A secure and climate-friendly energy supply requires one thing above all: realism. Looking back shows the contribution nuclear energy has made over decades, while looking ahead makes clear that a reliable energy mix will not be possible without it in the long term. My goal is to further position KernD as a strong, reliable and European-networked voice and to actively promote an objective dialogue on the role of nuclear energy.”
At the same time, Kerntechnik Deutschland e. V. extends its sincere thanks to Dr Thomas Behringer for his many years of dedicated and reliable contribution to the association. He has accompanied, shaped, and continuously developed KernD over a long period. With his retirement, a defining chapter in the association’s history comes to a close. KernD wishes him all the very best for this new phase of his life.
KernD is Germany’s leading competence network for nuclear energy. As an association of key stakeholders in the sector, KernD brings together companies, research institutions and experts committed to the safe use, research and further development of nuclear technology. With its expertise and experience, KernD serves as the primary point of contact for all matters relating to nuclear energy in Germany.
